Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks gets new security feature
Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks are about to receive a new security feature against unauthorized data access. The new technology is scheduled to be available in selected ThinkPad notebooks in the first quarter of 2009.
The Lenovo Constant Secure Remote Disable feature allows a user to send a simple text message via a cell phone to disable their PC and thus prevent unauthorized users from accessing any information contained in the notebook. Lenovo worked with Phoenix Technologies, a leader in embedded technologies, to make this facility available in selected ThinkPad notebooks equipped with mobile broadband. To activate Remote Disable, users create a simple text message command using their cellphone, and send the command to the pc via sms. Once the PC has been turned off by remote, it will automatically disable the next time it registers on the network.
Users receive a confirmation text message that confirms when Remote Disable has been successfully executed. A user can also re-activate the noteook by using his/her pre-set password created during notebook startup. Lenovo's Remote Disable will be included in the price of the notebook, so there won't be an additional charge
